This website was funded by an Artistic Assistance grant from Alternate Roots. A regional arts service organization with over 30 years of history, Alternate ROOTS is an invaluable national resource to artists, organizers and cultural workers.
Community Arts Network: National
Art in the Public Interest (API) is a nonprofit organization providing information and resources in support of art that is culturally engaged and serving communities. API’s co-directors, Linda Frye Burnham and Steven Durland, founded and edited High Performance magazine for its entire 20 years, with an increasing focus on the field of community arts and art for social justice. In 1995 they sharpened their focus and mission by creating a new nonprofit organization, Art in the Public Interest, and, with Virginia Tech, founding the Community Arts Network in 1999.

The Courtyard Gallery: Asheville, NC
The courtyard Gallery shows Free films every friday night. World Cinema is at 8pm every friday night at the courtyard gallery in the NEW location, Phil Mechanics Building in Asheville’s river district. The Courtyard Gallery located here features fine arts, crafts, and Fossil watches & accessories.

We work collectively to create engaged performance art which transforms the social environment within and beyond the performance.“The Change of State Performance Project speaks to important issues about our local natural resources. Creative projects like Aquatown address–literally– the ground we stand on.” -Sarah Ross, Public Arts Commissioner, Urbana Public Arts Program.

Ash Devine performed with Change of State in the world premier of “AquaTown: A Future Hydrohistory” in spring 2010. Andrea del Moral, Bay area performer, activist and co-author of the book “Damnation”, directed and co-wrote AquaTown .


The Beehive Collective: Asheville, NC, Maine and National
The Hivestory…
The work of the Beehive Collective has three major facets: the Hive is appreciated internationally for its educational graphics campaigns, at a regional level for it’s stone mosaic murals and apprentice program, and locally for it’s dedication to the revitalization of the Machias Valley Grange Hall, a landmark building in our small, rural town. The Hive has been going and growing since 2000, at full speed!
